With several hikes
announced late last year and early 2011, from the price increase of the basic
bread, taxi fares to the increase in SLEX Toll Gate fees, it seems poor Juan has not seen the end of it –
yet. Today it was announced that a P10
hike in MRT and LRT fare is looming. This
is not yet official. A hearing is still
in the works.
According to the DOTC,
they needed to set a price so they could discuss it during the hearing, but
several groups are already prepared to protest.
However, during a
board meeting, both the LRT and MRT administrations have decided on an P11 basic
rate with a P1 increase per kilometer. Currently,
the MRT’s higest rate is at P15 while the LRT charges P20. With the price increase, MRT will be charging
P28 while the LRT will charge P31.
Tsk! Tsk! Poor
Juan has been bombarded with left and right increase in basic commodities with
no salary hike. Will his meager salary be enough to sustain his family?
